Dr. Olivia Torres, PsyD works from the belief that meaning and satisfaction stem from the ability to connect with one's self and others. Old emotional wounds and current struggles can impair this ability for connection. I work collaboratively with each individual, couple, or family to create a safe environment where healing can occur.
Clinically, I draw from a number of different therapeutic modalities, but I primarily work from a contemporary psychoanalytic model. This means that I believe symptoms and patterns of thinking, feeling, and interacting need to be examined and their meaning understood in order for change to occur. In getting at the "root" of the problem, change can be lasting, and you can begin to feel more in control of and in tune with yourself. While psychoanalytic approaches do value understanding childhood and developmental experiences, your current concerns and relationships are also of central focus.
I received my Bachelor's in Psychology and Neuroscience from Loyola University Chicago and my Master's and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University Oregon. I have experience working in private practice as well as in primary care, college counseling, and community mental health settings. I am a former fellow of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute and have specialized training through the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute and the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center.
I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Priority Health and ASR Health Benefits insurance, but many individuals elect to pay out of pocket for their mental health services for greater privacy and flexibility outside their insurance company's dictates on treatment. I also offer a sliding scale fee structure for those individuals financially unable to pay full fee. I will work with you to determine a mutually sustainable cost.
I am happy to speak by phone or email to determine if we may be a good fit for psychotherapy and to answer any questions you may have.
