Dr. Kristin K. Vanden Hoek, PsyD
Primary areas of clinical focus include:
In 2014, I began my private practice, working with adolescents, families, and adults. Over time, I found that my work with college students and adult women was the most fulfilling, and it remains my primary focus today.
Therapy is not a “one size fits all” process. What I find most rewarding as a clinical psychologist is connecting with each person uniquely, tailoring my approach to their individual background and experiences. Together we set personalized goals and explore their identity, relationships, and what helps them feel their best. In our sessions trust is built through open, nonjudgmental dialogue and respectful questions, creating a safe space for personal growth and discovery.
I value helping people explore their inner lives. While therapy can address various concerns, most seek to better understand themselves and their relationships. Whether facing challenges, feeling stuck, or seeking personal growth, therapy can provide the support and clarity needed to move forward. Together, we will work on developing healthier coping strategies, understanding root causes, reframing negative thought patterns, and reconnecting with your inner resilience and strength. I encourage clients to share their experiences in meaningful ways—through photos, art, stories, or music—which often deepens our understanding of who they are and what matters most to them.
I work best with individuals committed to actively engaging in therapy for lasting change. My goal is for clients to benefit long after our work ends, empowering them to live purposeful, hopeful lives aligned with their core values.
When I am not in the office, I enjoy creating art through photography, droning, graphic design, and teaching set painting. At home, I love gardening and spending time with my daughter and two mischievous goldendoodles. I also enjoy Michigan through camping and kayaking, as well as traveling to explore other countries.
Please feel free to contact me by e-mail with any questions about my practice, approach to therapy, insurance/payment, or to schedule an appointment. I look forward to speaking with you! [email protected]
